Do It Yourself @ Home 

See this Book here on the right? In my second year of college we had to do a project and write about any topic in the beauty industry. For me I loved this as the industry is so big now there was lots of choices. 

First I thought about doing my project on Laser therapy because this has gotten so popular in the last few years. Then I thought about doing it on Skin cancer- as this is becoming a serious case in Ireland. 

There were loads of ideas in my head! But I thought why not touch on a bit of everything and make it quite broad. So I decided to write a DIY Beauty Fix book, A Girls quick guide in doing everything beauty at home. 
I touched on 1. Well being ( Beauty being skin deep ) 2. Kitchen Cupboard Remedies (What you can find at home to make the best face mask and scrub) 3.Know your skin (find out your skin type learn to care for your skin) 4. Body Beautiful ( Taking care of your body inside & out) 5. How to (This was a chapter on how to do everything at home from nails, to face masks, cellulite, curing spots, and avoiding wrinkles. 6. Did you know? (Interesting facts about all things that fight stress, boost energy, and make you feel good.

I will do a separate post on each of the chapters I wrote about. It was so fun to do this, its a book that will never get old because every girl loves to keep up with looking and feeling her best. And of course your going to save some cash dollar bills by doing your own face mask at home every once in awhile and by making your own face and body scrub too.


Face masks are amazing to Brighten up your skin and leave you glowing.. You should do one twice a week. And for a better result before you use a mask you should use an exfoliator. Leave the mask on for 15 mins and wash off with warm water.

  1. Avocado Face mask: Don't throw out avocados once they go icky, Just peel it and mash it all together and apply to your skin. (for deeper moisture add some olive oil )
  2. Honey & Banana Face mask: Use 2 table spoons of honey and mix up the banana together.
  3. Lavender Face mask: This is an excellent soothing mask for those with sensitive skin.All you need is  dried lavender petals and apply to the skin.

The best Mask for Oily skin is:

Yoghurt and green clay Mask: Yoghurt is great to refine the pores. you can use the yoghurt straight from the fridge and its sooo refreshing on the skin. (if you can use Greek - its the best) The clay you can buy from most whole food stores. (but dont worry if you cant find it, Use honey instead) 
Use 1/4 cup of yoghurt, 1 teaspoon of the clay and 1 teaspoon of honey.

Use this one for a Breakout.


Now to the prepping before your mask.

Let's Exfoliate:

Exfoliation is a very important step in skin care and many of my clients have only just begun this because they weren't aware before coming to me. As of today your going to be exfoliating twice a week. 

Exfoliating removes dead skin, and allows for your new skin cells to grow up through the layers resulting in healthier and clearer skin.

When you have exfoliated your allowing for the products that you use on your skin to actually work into the skin, as there is no barrier between the layers of the skin.

Your make up will look better on your skin and You will see a huge difference in your complexion. 

Now lets start making it...... :)

Facial Scrub Recipe:

Simple as;

1. 3-4 large spoons of Brown Sugar
2. Squeeze of  a lemon
3. Few drops of olive oil

*Mix all into a paste and add a little more oil or sugar if need to.
*Apply to damp skin, Face & Neck.
*Massage in circular movements for a few mins
*In The shower with the steam is good to open pores.
*Remove with a muslim cloth or mitts, (Cotton might not get it all off)

And..... Hip Hip Hooray You are left with softer skin than a babies bum ;-)

Do this twice a week for maximum results, but don't keep the scrub mix.
