Why EVERYONE needs to be using a Face Mask:

November 28, 2014

Hey there, Happy Friday!

Today I am writing about the benefits of Face Masks. They are super quick to use and they make a massive difference to the skin. Our skin doesn't look the same forever so we might aswel make the most of what we have of it! Please note these are all my own recommendations, tried and tested over the last few years. Everyone's skin is different so please let me know if you have any questions.

Face Masks...I know they can be time consuming for some people if they are busy with work or study but honestly once you start including a face mask in your weekly skin care routine, you will love what it does to your skin.

What a Face Mask will do to your skin?
A Face mask will lift dirt and impurities from the skin, leaving you with much smaller pores. The complexion of your skin will be much brighter after removing the old skin layers. Fine lines will be reduced as hydration will be increased. Your skin will become more nourished. The appearance of breakouts or the odd spot will be improved. Ageing skin will start to rebuild its collagen and elastin fibers- firming the skin. (Now don't say that all doesn't sound fantastic!)

There are different masks for different skin types.
(You need to know your skin type before you start to use a mask)

Oily skin; need a clay type mask to draw out the impurites and detox the skin.
Dry skin; needs a total nourishing mask with hydrating properties.
Ageing skin; need proteins to rebuild and plump the skin and hydration to slow down signs of ageing.
Sensitive skin needs a calming and soothing mask to protect the skin.
Combination skin types need to use both clay and hydrating masks to target the different zones.
Normal skin types need to use a mask to keep skin looking fresh and healthy. They can use any type of mask depending on how their skin is on the day.

For very dry or very oily skin- it is a good idea to sleep with your mask on the targeted area overnight. As this penetrates into the skin deeper and will help repair the skin.

My tip;
It is best to steam and exfoliate your face before you do a face mask. Boil the kettle, fill a bowl with water, cover your hair and head, place your face over the bowl. Not too close, but enough for you to feel the steam. Steam face for about 3-5 minutes. (Do not steam your skin if it is very sensitive)

The steam will open your pores allowing for a deep exfoliation, helping the face mask penetrate deeper into the skin. This literally takes 7 minutes(Steam and Exfoliation) and you will see a better result with your skin.

If time is an issue for you and you don't see yourself sticking to this weekly. That''s okay, just try and steam your face whenever you can. But defiantly get into the routine of using a mask weekly.

Keep the mask where you will see it, next to your exfoliator if your doing this weekly aswel.

Once your skin is dry after the steam and exfoliation, apply the mask and leave on for as long as possible. The longer the better, but at-least for 10 minutes.

See this as time for yourself aswel as your skin. De-stressing and relaxing.
Grab some slices of cucumber, put your feet up, and head back, place 2 cucumber slices on your eyes... Eat the rest.. (They have amazing health benefits- see below).. And relax! Ah....

Do this as often as you can. Everyones skin is different. If your skin is more problematic and you have alot of skin concerns, I would apply the mask 2-3 times a week. Steaming can be done just once a week.

Below are some pictures of my tried and tesed Face Masks. And I have done out a DIY face mask recipe for dry skin, ageing skin, oily skin, and normal skin. Try them out and let me know how they go!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you learnt something new from this post today and start your face masking this weekend! Have a good one..
