The Benefits of Massage

December 04, 2014

Ah the thought of just laying on a massage table, inhaling beautiful essential oils, feeling relaxed, about to doze off… Zzzzzz…

Who wouldn't like that?

However, there is so much more to getting a massage other than relaxation. There are many health benefits.

Everyday stresses build up and can cause extreme tension for a lot of people. Including headaches, migraine, sore muscles, back pain and lack of sleep.

Massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques to enhance function. It offers a drug free, non invasive approach based on the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Who will benefit from having a massage?

EVERYONE (except those who are in the first trimester of pregnancy, and cancer patients)
  • People who sit an office everyday on computers (Neck, shoulders become tight and legs aren’t getting much movement)
  • People who are on their feet all day (sore legs are a result and you need to increase the blood flow in the area)
  • People who lift heavy objects or work with heavy machinery (Muscles become tight and sore and you need to loosen there areas)
  • People who work in a stressful environment (Massage will help relax the nervous system
  • People who lift weights and gym a lot.(Lactic Acid builds up in the muscles when they are being used often and this causes soreness- need to break it down)

Types of massages:
There are different massages you can get: Relaxation massage, Deep tissue massage, sports massage, Thai massage, Balinese massage, lymphatic drainage massage, hot stone massage and bamboo massage.

What massage you choose completely depends on the reason for massage, whether your purely coming for relaxation, or wanting to focus on breaking down the tension build up in muscles.

How often should you get a massage?
This depends on the reason for coming for massage. If it’s for stress and relaxation- you would probably need a massage every 3-5 weeks.
Deep Tissue massage, working out the knots and tension- 2-4 weeks.
General health and well being massage- 8-12 weeks

Price wise:
This doesn't need to be expensive.

  • It depends where you go, you pay for what you get.
  • You will pay more for a full body massage - usually 60 mins
  • Half body massage usually 35mins
  • Spa's have more relaxing facilities and can offer you a whole range of other services.
  • Massage parlours are everywhere now, so you have options if you are on a budget.
If you haven’t had a full body massage in quite awhile, I would suggest starting with that. Maintain your body’s well being by having a half body massage every couple of months.

This is the perfect gift for someone for Christmas, or their Birthday.

Start taking care of your body, It does a lot for you everyday.

And, Enjoy!
