Ahhhh the power of Antioxidants….. I’m sure you’ve heard of them before but do you know what they are and where we can get them from?

Antioxidants are substances that help prevent the damaging effects of oxidation (also known as Free Radicals) on cells throughout our body. Free Radicals attack and damage the DNA in our cells resulting in a weakened immune system, body and changes in our skin. Think of a peeled apple turning brown, that is oxidation in action. Free radicals are created internally in the body and externally. The environment, pollution, diet, smoking, uv rays, and stress all play a role in the production of free radicals in our body. An overload of these bad boys can cause serious illness to the body.Antioxidants block the effects of free radicals and help repair the damage they may have caused. Antioxidants are found in foods especially fruit and veg.

Antioxidants can help to protect our skin from the damaging effects of the sun. They protect our skin from the inside out by guarding our cells from damage. Vitamins A,C & E and the mineral selenium (known as the beauty mineral) are very helpful in skincare, encouraging cell and tissue growth, helping the body to repair itself. Antioxidants are amazing in an antiageing skincare routine- helping fight lines and wrinkles.

Free Radicals don’t sleep or stop attacking the skin. It’s estimated that the DNA in every cell in the human body suffers about 10,000 hits from free radicals each day. Imagine that…..!! We can’t see the damage being done, but we certainly do start to see it over time- I’m sure you will agree, lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and sensitivity. These don’t show up over night. They are built up over many years.

Now I bet you’re thinking….’How can I protect my body and Skin everyday against harmful free radical damage’?
