Cheap VS Expensive Products

March 04, 2015

How much should we really be spending on skincare products?

The beauty industry is only getting bigger. Which makes it harder for us when choosing skincare products.

What makes a product Expensive?
1.      Lots of money spent on research and development of the product.

2.      The use of expensive ingredients/quality ingredients

3.      More money spent on marketing and advertising

4.      Better, and more attractive packaging

What makes a product Cheap?
1.     The use of less quality ingredients/low cost ingredients

2.   Low cost manufacturing

3.   Quick and easier to produce

When choosing skincare products the number 1 thing to look for is the ingredients on the back. This is going to tell you how good quality the product is. Majority of the skincare products in grocery and drugstores have a high content of alcohol and nasty preservatives. These products are easy and cheap to make and that’s why they are at a low cost.

You want to check out the ACTIVE ingredient list on the product. This will be the top ingredients named, they are the ingredients with the highest content in the product.  (For example take an acne product- One of the most effective acne fighting ingredients is Salicylic Acid. If you look at a drugstore product, such as Clean and  Clear acne control moisturiser – It has 0.5% Salicylic Acid. And a higher product, Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion has 1.5% Salicylic Acid)

Quality ingredients with good research ensure that a product will have a higher chance of success with your skin. This is enough reason for people to spend just a little bit more on skincare products that are worth the price tag.

However I am not saying you must splurge out on skincare.. I want you to understand the ingredient list on your next shopping trip. Some drug store products are perfectly fine to use and some luxury brands have too much chemicals in their product. Know what you’re paying for and Know what you’re putting into your skin.

If you are unsure, look up the ingredients, look up the product reviews or you can send me a message, I am happy to help.

Everyone has a different skin type and budget so don’t just buy something because of the Brand or because someone else uses it. Do some research first.

Visit your nearest salon or spa who specialise in skincare and have high standard trainings and knowledge with the skin. Their job is to analyze your skin and educate you on what products will work best for you and why.

Invest in long term health for your skin. You wont regret it!

Any questions just shoot!!

Have a great day!
