Skincare Tips for Everyone

March 06, 2015

Having Healthy skin is more than being free of Spots and Pimples.

Below are some tips to help your skin glow from the inside out:

  • Our body is made up of 60% water. Water is essential for the proper circulation of nutrients in the body. Drinking water regularly helps improve the colour and texture of our skin by keeping it building new cells regularly. (Carry around a bottle with you all day everyday and make sure your having  atleast 1-2 litres)

  • Our body repairs itself as we sleep so it is important to get enough hours each night for our body to function at its best and for our skin to look its best. (8 hours is what you should aim for)

  • We are what we eat. What you put into your body shows on the outside. Many skin concerns are diet related. Make sure you include plenty proteins (meats and fish for re-building cells and keep skin hair and nails healthy) Carbs (rice, oats for bodys energy) Good Fats (avocadoes and nuts for proper brain and nerve functioning) Fruit and Veg (berries and broccoli for fibre and healthy digestive system and fight bacteria in the body)

*We all love to indulge and treat ourselves every now and then but just remembering the importance of the above foods for a healthy body and glowing skin.

  • Too much sugar in the diet can lead to pimple like bumps under the skin. Sugar is like sebum. The more sugar you eat the more your adding sebum into your face and more likely you will get breakouts.

  • Sun protection isn’t just for the sun. It protects your skin from every harmful factor out there- car fumes, smoke, pollution, harsh winter weather, air conditioning, and of course the sun. SPF in makeup and moisturisers isn’t enough to protect your skin. You should be wearing an spf of 30-50 everyday on top of your moisturiser. (Take an apple for example, once you bite into it and leave it in the atmosphere for awhile what happen? it turns brown... The same idea happens with our skin when it is unprotected but it takes longer for us to see the damage.

  • Never sleep in your makeup it will clog your pores and make them 1000 times worse. (it will take awhile to show but listen to me D O N T D O IT!) First step to skincare is cleansing… It all starts with clean skin. And a good cleanser!

  • New skin cells are produced every 28 days in our body and face. As we hit our 40s this skin cell cycle starts to slow down and the cells take longer to reach the surface. This is why we want to have good skincare through our 20’s and right up to 30’s to prevent skin from getting damaged.

  • Clean your makeup brushes every few weeks. If you don’t bacteria will build up on them and will lead to nasty pimples or infections on your skin.

  • Exfoliate 2-3 times a week this will help remove dead skin from the surface and allow new cells reach out on to the top layer. Unclogging pores and brightening the skin. Products will work deeper into the skin after this.

  • Face masks feed the skin. Oily skin (use clay masks) Dry skin (hydrating cream mask) Use x1 week to help the complexion of your skin and leave it glowing.
  • Oily skin types sleep with a clay mask on your skin over night (not all over but just the oily areas) this helps take away that shine and unclog the pores.
  • Dry skin types use a richer cream in the evening after cleansing to help repair and nourish your skin.

  • Dry skin ages quicker and lines show faster than oily skin types so its important you get into a good skin care habit (eye care, and serums will be your BFF)

  •         DON’T pick your spots!! This may lead to scarring (has happened me from when I was younger and didn’t know this information) let them heal themselves. Use products containing Salicylic Acid and tea tree oil and clay masks.

  •   Eye care is applied on the bone under your eye not directly under your eye. Use your RING FINGER as this has the lightest touch. The eye area is the most fragile area on our skin. It ages quickest.

I could go on…. But that’s enough for today! Ill be back with more tips for specific skin types next!

Katie
