Washing your face with Soap

You should Never wash your face with soap, or showergel. No no no. This is a skin sin!  

If your guilty of this method of washing your face, Never use it again. You will thank me in the future for doing so. I swear.

Soap is so stripping to the skin its crazy. It actually strips our skin of its natural oils (which we need for essential moisture) and damages the acid mantle barrier on our skin (our protective part of our skin which stops germs and nasty things from getting into it causing havoc of all sorts). 

We have a pH of 5.5 on our skin. This means our skin is neutral. Anything below 5.5 is an acid and anything above is an alkaline. If your using soap on your skin your damaging the pH of your skin by making it more alkaline- Causing more damage to happen to your skin, making it more sensitive and dehydrated and could possibly lead to eczema or rosacea in the future if continue use.

Skincare products such as cleansers are designed with simular pH to the skin making them more beneficial for our skins needs. Cleaning our skin, but also keeping it hydrated causing No disruption to the acid mantle.

Many of my clients on a daily basis say they use soap on their face at home.. And my reaction is always: You WHAT!??!?? - This is not what skin therapists like to hear!

But it is so common. One tip for you- go have your skin analysed in your near salon, spa or clinic (this is usually complimentry, but it is also done before every skin treatment anyway) Your therapist will perscribe the best skincare products for you depending on your skin type. There are many different kind of products out there, you dont have to go and buy the  cleanser your friends sisters cousin said was 'the best'- everyone's skin is different.

Soap is a big skin sin. Stay away ladies, stick with a cleanser you will see the difference and thank yourself in a few years (and me!)
