When should you start to wear Eye Cream?

October 14, 2015

If your interested in skincare then I suggest you read on....

There is not a whole lot we can do to slow down the clock when it comes to fighting fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. After all we’re going to get our fair share throughout the years anyway. Unless your going to go down the botox and fillers route.

In my opinion, starting to wear creams and gels at a young age (late teens early 20’s) can really benefit to the ageing of the under eye skin. Our skin starts to age naturally in our mid 20’s, and we may not see the signs until we're in our 30's. By starting to wear eye care before your 30’s could be the best thing for you, if you want to look after your skin. Especially if you wear a lot of eye make-up or your out in the sun alot.

Many people only start to use eye care products when they first see fine lines and wrinkles, this however shouldnt be the only reason to use eye cream. Although the products will help plump ageing skin, its important to nourish the skin whether you have concerns or not.

The skin under our eyes is the thinnest skin on our face and it is the one that ages the quickest. Dark circles, fine lines (crows feet), wrinkles are all an indication of changes to the skin. They can be improved by applying creams and gels on a daily basis. (Dark circles however may be heredity, diet related or lack of sleep)

Just note there is a difference between eye cream and eye gel:

1.Eye gel is designed for Dark circles, puffy and tired eyes. The gel stimulates the circulation in the skin, it penetrates deeper and brings oxygenated blood to the surface. Brightening and Improving the eye area.

2.Eye Cream is designed for lines and wrinkles. It is a thicker base and helps stimulate your own Collagen (protein/muscle that holds skin together) and Elastin (allows skin to snap back into place).Strengthening and tightening the eye area.

Depending on your concern, and ingredients in the particular products your using on the under eye area- eye care should be used x2 day. Morning & Night for maximum results. If dark circles, puffy eyes and wrinkles are a concern, you can alternate eye gel in the morning and cream in the evening.

There is a reason that there are particular products made for the eye area. As I mentioned, the skin under the eye is the most fragile, it cannot take heavy products such as face moisturisers. The molecule size of these products are too large for the thin eye area and can cause congestion, irritation and mila(while little spot like lesions).

Eye gel on the left and Cream on the right. Pea size amount between both eyes. (eye cream spread a little in this picture so it seems bigger than the size of the gel, but it’s the same size)

Eye creams/gels last a very long time because you are only using a PEA size amount of it, if you use any more you may over stimulate the area.

Always apply eye care with your Ring Finger, this finger has the lightest touch and is nice and gentle for the under eye. Apply the gel or cream on the orbital bone, not directly under the eye as this will cause puffiness. Apply all around, starting from the orbital bone up to the brow bone and around.

You can see the dotted lines around the orbital bone here, that's where Eye cream and Gel should be applied. Not too close to the eye.

*TIP: For Dark circles, tired, sore, puffy eyes- Keep eye gel in the fridge. The cooling affect really stimulates circulation, brightening the area. Sliced Cucumbers are great to apply too!
*Always look for eye care with an SPF in it, because the skin is the number 1 culprit of pre-mature ageing skin.

Sliced Cool Cucumber and place on tired, puffy eyes = the best hangover cure!

This is the eye gel I am using at the mo. 1.99 in boots. I keep it in the fridge and it feels amazing on my eyes! For the winter Ill invest in a eye cream to keep my skin hydrated and Ill use this eye gel with cucumbers on top x1-2 week as a eye mask while I have a face mask on.

If you haven't been using a separate product for your eyes then start now! Its not going to magically transform your skin overnight, but every little bit helps.
