Long time no blog.
It’s been a few months since my last blog post on here and I've really missed it. But I'm back, and I have lots of skin stuff to share with you all so I hope you follow along.

I want to share some tips on Sun protection with you. For starters it shouldn't be called 'SUN' protection it should be called 'daily' protection because all year long our skin is exposed to daylight.

There are an incredible amount of sunscreen products available in most stores now but, how do you know which one to choose? I'm going to share the Key Ingredients that you need to look for in your sunscreen and explain what the factor number actually means.

Take a picture of the following ingredients and search the back of the product when buying your next suncream. Oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octinoxate. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These ingredients are ACTIVE ingredients and are what make the sunscreen protective against UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. If atleast 1 of the above is in the product it is a good quality.

·        SPF 15 lasts for 150 minutes (2.5hrs) good for winter months, must re-apply if out in sun
·        SPF30 lasts for 300 minutes (5hrs) *Best factor. All year round especially summer months. re-apply if out all day.
·        SPF50 lasts for 500 minutes (8hrs) Gives the longest protection but may have more chemical ingredients which can sensitise the skin.

Ultra violet light from the sun is the major cause of damage to our skin. Sunburn causes DNA changes in our skin cells. Un-repaired DNA damage to skin cells can cause cancer.

I was a sun worshipper all through my teens, all I ever wanted was a tan. Id tan on holidays on the beach all day not topping up my spf much. I have used sunbeds so I wasn't a sun saint, by all means. But working more close with the skin the past few years and understanding more and more about the damage the sun causes to the skin I have completely ditched my sun baking days. Ill opt for my tan from a bottle now.

Always have a separate face and body SPF. The skin on you’re body is thicker. The skin on the face won’t be able to handle that one. The results of sun damage on face is usually dark spots/pigmentation and broken veins- so a good quality face spf (like mine pictured above and below) will have some active ingredients to prevent this from happening.

Whether you’ve been away in the sun or not- buy yourself a good quality sun protection and use it everyday. An SPF of 30 is the best to go for. Wear it everyday all year round to protect your skin. Look for 5 stars on the bottle or that it atleast says UVA and UVB protected.

I hope some of you got something from this post. I get many messages about which SPF is the best. My answer is always the same- it depends on the ingredients and how much you’re willing to spend. La roche posay, and Vichy are always reliable brands. BUT search your ingredients before you buy!
