Top Skin-care tips from a Skin Therapist:

1. Get into a good skincare routine.
Invest in good skin care products for your skin type after having a consultation with someone who is educated on skin and ingredients. Don't buy brands just because you heard they are good. It's your skin, be smart about it.


2. Don’t buy products from the grocery store.
If you want to get serious about your skin then the supermarket halls arent going to be for you. The ingredients in these products arent active enough to penetrate the top of your skin. Therefore they are just sitting on top of your skin, where the dead skin cells are sloughing off. Skin care products dont have to cost you a fortune, but if you want good skin then you will have to invest in the good stuff.


3. Take care of your diet.
Eat for your skin. Eat lots of raw veg, dark leafy greens. Include protein, omegas, nuts and seeds whenever you can. Our skin is also known as our second stomach, everything that goes inside eventually shows on the outside.


4. Protect your skin when exposed to the sun.
Over exposure of the sun will cause alot of damage to the dna in the skin cells changing the Pigmentatio and weakening the blood vessels. These are hard things to repair so its best to avoid damage when possible.



5. Quit smoking.
Smoking depletes vitamin C in the skin. Vitamin C is very important to maintain healthy collagen production in the skin (collagen holds our skin together and keeps skin firm). Over time the skin sags and wrinkles because the skin is unable to produce collagen.
 Save your skin while you can!


6. Change pillow cases often.
Bacteria and dirt build up on pillow cases if not regularly. If you suffer with congested or acne skin then change your pillow case 1-2 week. Silk pillow cases are the best to sleep on if you want to take care of your skin.


7. Ditch face wipes.
They are doing you and your skin no favours! Its like washing your body with baby wipes... Not proper cleaning right!? Face wipes do strip your skin of natural oils and they are not a method of proper cleansing in any skin therapist's vocabulary. 


8. Use face masks x1 week
Masks help boost the circulation in the skin and leave a healthy glow. There are different masks for different skin types. Clay masks which absorb oil are great for breakout skins. Creams and gel masks are best for dry, sensitive and ageing skins. You can also sleep with masks on your skin over night to get a better absorption into the skin.


9. Steam your skin every 1-2 weeks
In my opinion this is great to do every now and then to detox the skin and help push dirt and toxins out. Its the best thing to do if you have blackheads or spots. Cleanse your face, steam then pop on a face mask depending on your skin type.


10. Don’t pick spots.
You will scar your skin and most likely the spot will take longer to go away.
Instead, cleanse your skin with a salycilic face wash, apply some tea tree oil or a clay mask.
tea tree oil is the best thing you can apply throughout the day when you have spots instead of picking them.


11. Last but not least....
Look for AHA's. lactic acid, glycolic acid, hyalurinic acid. BHA's, salycilic acid, peptides, vitamin a,b,c,e, antioxidants, and stem cells in your products.. Dont't be brand obsessed, be ingredient obsessed.
