Refine your Pores: Product and Ingredient Reccomendations.April 20, 2017
First off, pores are not doors. Lets just get that clear. Your born with your pore size so you can thank your parents for that. BUT however, you can help reduce the appearance of them with certain ingredients and products. I am going to share my favourites with you here and help you reduce your pore size.
How do our pores get larger?
Residue of pollution, creams, sebum and makeup cause pores to become enlarged and dirty. They simply become clogged and congested. Things that usually accompany large pores are blackheads and whiteheads.
What to do?
Its all about correct cleansing and exfoliating with active ingredients such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHA’s and BHA’s) and vitamin A. Once you start to use these ingredients in your products the cell turn over of the skin will be much faster.
Double cleansing is good to do in the evenings if you have been wearing creams, spf or makeup. First cleansing the skin with an oil base product will make sure all products have been removed from the skin and then you can go in with a more active cleanser like Dermaquest Glycolic cleanser to work on the clean skin for about 5-10 mins. Glycolic acid which is an AHA helps to resurface the top of the skin, helping to shed dead skin cells. This is a great ingredient for large pores. Another great ingredient to look for in cleansers is a BHA called Salycilic acid - this ingredient penetrates to the pore and helps to get rid of any junk down there whilst killing bacteria that can lead to blackheads, and breakouts. A great cleanser contianing salycilic acid that I love is Skin Ceuticals blemish and age cleansing gel.
Enzyme Exfoliating – ditch your scrub. Its doing your skin no favours. Enzyme exfoliants are cream base exfoliants that have aha’s and bha’s in them. These ingredients gently penetrate the top of the skin to exfoalite in the more active skin layers, speeding up the skin cell cycle and flushing out dead skin cells. Therefore cream exfolaints are less irritating on the surface of the skin and more active in the lower (better results as our skin cells are made in the lower layers). My favourite is Environs alpha hydroxy cream to use x1-2 week.
Face masks – Clay and Enzyme masks will be your BFFS when it comes to pore refining. My two favourites are Skin Ceuticals Clay Mask here and Dermaquest pumpkin mask here – These two are total game changers when it comes to large pores and greasy skin. The clay absorbs all the excess oil in the skin and the pumpkin mask has the aha’s which resurface the skin and kill bacteria. Hello Glowing skin!
*Remember it will take time to see improvements with any concerns with the skin. The Main thing is to stay consistent with your routine, use good quality active products, and have patience!
Let me know what your faourite produts are for reducing pore size.
All of these products can be got online but, I reccomend to have your skin analysed by a skin therapist before buying any active products. You cannot trust every website (unless its their offical site) when it comes to buying skincare products.
