Friday Five: Summer Skin.

1. SPF

Sun protection factor should be worn everyday, no matter the weather. SPF's should be higher in the summer and re-applied more. Always get a sample of one before you buy because there are different types. There is Chemical spfs and Physical spfs. 

Chemical spfs contain ingredients such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate and avobenzone. They work by changing UV rays into heat and then releasing that heat from the skin. 

Physical spfs contain mineral active ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. These ingredients sit on top of the skin and act as physical barriers or blockers, not allowing uv rays to penetrate the skin.

2. H20

Drink drink drink.. Water that is. Stay hydrated. Of course we are all going to enjoy some cocktails or whatver on holidays while laying by the pool, but just be aware of how much water you are drinking daily. You dont want your skin to shrivel up like a rasin due to moisture loss..

3. Do not bake.

It takes 20-30 years for sun damage to show up on the surface of the skin. Brown spots, red spots, broken viens, pigmentation, wrinkles, are all a sign of sun damage. I know most of us enjoy laying out and feeling the sun on our bodies and want to be as brown as a berry but it is not good for us. Be sun smart, enjoy the nice weather but top up your SPF and don't burn ;-)

4. Hydrate and Mask

The sun dehydrates our skin and its our skins worst enemy.. Invest in gel hydrating masks to help hydrate and nourish the skin after been out all day in the sun. Make your own mask with natural yogurt or honey. Cool your eyes with some cucumber.

5. Hats and Sunglasses

The more you squint, the more wrinkles around the eyes you will get... Invest in a good pair of sunnies to protect your eyes and the skin around them. The bigger the hat, the more protection of the skin you get. Take a leaf out of the Asian women's book and walk with an umbrella..... I have tried this when I lived in Austrialia, I felt like a fool but I wanted to see what it was like, and asian women have the BEST skin in the world. One of the reasons why is because they avoid the sun and dont expose themselfs to it often.
