Exfoliate

Exfoliation is important to remove dead skin cells and renew the skin. Products work better into the skin once dead skin has been removed. We can’t see this dead skin, but it is there! Our skin renews itself every 28 days, so what is not removed is just sitting on top of the skin and can cause a blockage for new cells trying to get through. Not exfoliating correctly or at all can cause bumpy, congested, spotty, acne, rough skin.

My favourite method of exfoliation is with an AHA/BHA product which has acids such as glycolic and salicylic acid. These acids work gently on the surface of the skin and more active in the lower layers of the skin causing changes to the surface in time. My current exfoliation products are Dermaquest Glycolic cleanser which I use as a mask after cleansing about twice a week. I use Environ Alpha hydroxy cream once a week with steam and leave on the skin overnight. I use Murad Retinol youth renewal serum maybe once a week or every 2 weeks because I don’t want to do too much exfoliation. If my skin is really feeling and looking slack I will apply the serum for overnight.

*I would never use all 3 of these products in the same night as my skin would be very sensitive and I don’t want to completely strip it of natural oils.

*Ditch the scrubs, and PLEASE never use this.


Face Mask's

I use a mask once a week. I apply a hydrating gel or cream mask when my skin is feeling dry. I choose clay or enzyme masks when my skin is breaking out, or oily and dull. I sleep with a clay mask patch worked on my skin when I have breakouts (my boyfriend is a lucky guy!)
Sheet masks are becoming one of my favourite masks to use because they are so easy to use and they make the skin feel so soft and glowing after.

Extra’s

1.       Sonic brush cleansing (foreo, clarisonic) – I cleanse with my foreo like sonic brush about once or twice in the week because it makes cleansing more effective on the skin. You can read about the sonic brush here.
2.       Dermarolling – I use my dermaroller x1 week which punctures tiny holes in the skin which tricks the skin into thinking its damaged. Collagen fibres are stimulated and product absorption is much deeper. Read more about needling here.
