Thou Shalt Double Cleanse

October 23, 2017

Do you double Cleanse? Double what I hear you say...  Cleansing is the most important step in any skincare routine, make-up wipes and micellar water are not proper cleansing. Cleansing your skin twice in the evening has been a thing for awhile now but not enough of us do it. I have already done a blog post here about it but I wanted to do another. If you aren't firmiluar with this step fear not I am going to fill you in on why you need to start doing it asap!

What is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing is exactly what it sounds like, cleansing your skin twice. First with a oil based cleanser to remove makeup.dirt, bactiera and sebum which can all be clogging your pores. Second cleanse is with a water base cleanser such as a foam or gel. This type of cleanser can have active ingredients such as AHA/BHA's and they can work better into the skin once the skin has already been prepped.

Why Should You Double Cleanse?

Our skin gets full of dead skin cells, bacteria and oil which can clog our pores. We dont always see it, but its happening. Everyone can benefit from double cleansing, the skin will be clearer and your products can work better into the skin once properly cleansed. If you are a oily/acne skin and thinking why would I ever apply more oil to my skin? Well oil attracts oil, and it really helps pull all the excess gunk stuck in the pores.

How Do You Double Cleanse Correctly?

1. First apply your oil based cleanser to your skin and massage it in, even around eyes. At the moment I am using plain ol coconut oil. Wash it all off after massaging it for a 1-2 minutes. *Coconut oil isnt for everyone so beware. I have just ran out of my beloved dermalogica pre cleanser.

2. Secondly apply a small amount of water based cleanser such as a gel or a foam into your hand, gather some water and apply it on to your already pre cleansed skin. This way the product can work deeper and better into the skin. Leave on for 1-2 mins letting it work then remove with luke warm water. *This cleanser shouldnt go into eyes if it has AHA/BHA's.

When to Double Cleanse?

Its best to double cleanse in the evenings before bed because it means you can remove all make-up and creams from the skin. Even if you haven't been wearing makeup you should still double cleanse.

Best Cleansers:

1, My favourite pre cleansers that I have used are Dermalogica Pre Cleanser, Environ Pre Cleasning and plain and simple Coconut oil. I will be trying a few new pre cleansers over the next few weeks and I will share them with you.

2. My Favourite cleansers are Skin Ceuticals Blemish and Age cleansing gel and La Roche posay Effaclar gel cleanser. All depends on how my skin is feeling. Look for active ingredients like salycilic acid, glycolic acid in cleansers if you have problematic skin.

*Cleansing wipes and micellar water are not correct cleansing methods and they cannot do anything for your clogged pores.
