Korean Inspired 10 step Skincare Routine:

Just to clarify these masks pictured above are from Japan, not Korea. 
Asian skincare is all amazing, but each country has its own particular routines. Kbeauty (Korean Beauty) is a big hype at the moment.

Korea is years ahead of us when it comes to skincare. They are the creators of sheet masks, essences and dewy flawless skin. There is up to 10 steps in the Korean womens skincare routine. I have been trying these steps for the past few weeks and I have seen a dramatic change in my skin.

In Korea healthy, glowing skin is the ideal form of beauty. It can be achieved by all, and it begins with adopting a skin first mentality. The Korean beauty philosophy is taking the world by storm and we in the western world can learn a few things from them.

To most people 10 steps probably sounds exhausting, especially if you are a 'sleep in your make-up' kind of gal or consider wipes as correct cleansing. If you do then maybe this post is not for you.

10 Step Korean Skincare Routine:

 1. Oil base cleanser

Use an oil base cleanser to remove all makeup and creams from the skin. Massage on to dry skin and get everything off the skin, apply some water to emulsify and then wash off with warm face towel.

 2. Water base cleanser

After removing all residue from the skin, you can then go in with an active gel base cleanser to give a very good cleanse. Leaving the cleanser on the skin for atleast 1 minute before washing off.

*  3. Exfoliate

Don't exfoliate everyday. Just 1-2 times a week depending on your skin type. Exfoliating is very important to remove dead skin cells and allow your products to work better into the skin. Skin always looks more glowy and even after exfolaiting.

 4. Toner

Toners bring your skin back to its normal pH level and prepare the skin for better absorption of products like serums. Pour the toner onto some cotton pads and wipe over the face.

 5. Essence

An essence is a type of serum/toner that aids in hydration and skin cell turnover. Apply directly to face with hands. Korea is the home to essences.

6. Serum/boosters

More concentrated products for specific skin types. They have a small molecule size so can penetrate deeper into the skin, must use if you have skin concerns like ageing, dry skin, breakouts and pigment.

* 7. Sheet Mask

My favourite! Full of hydrating, brightening and antiageing ingredients. All you have to do is apply one and chill for atleast 20 minutes. Your skin will be absolutely glowing afterwards. Use x1-2 a week or everyday if you can!

8 .Eye Cream

The skin around the eye is the thinnest and needs special care. Apply a pea size amount of product to your ring finger and dab around the eye bone. Hydrates and protects the delicate area.

 9. Moisturise 

Find a moisturiser that suits your skin type and never skip this step! This helps to completely hydrate and protect the skins barrier layer. Swap your PM night cream for a thick face mask when your skin feels extra dry.

* 10. SPF

Spf is your daily defence and should be worn 365 days in the year- rain, sleet or snow. It prevents premature ageing and skin cancer. If you are outdoors you will need to re-apply every few hours.

* Exfolaiting, and sheet masks should only be done in the PM x2 week. SPF only applied in the AM*
